In 2021, I was commissioned once more by Jayne at Foggie Toddle Books to produce illustrations for a new children's book by writer and storyteller Susi Briggs.

'Wheesht!' tells the story of Shug the dug, who thinks that he's a fantoosh (fantastic) singer but his loving family don't always appreciate his talent. One night they’ve had enough and they put him in the garden in the hope that he’ll be quiet and play with his toys. They tell him to ‘haud his wheesht!” (be quiet). Poor Shug isn’t sure he has one, and asks various creatures who he finds in the garden. They don’t have any answers but the penny finally drops when an old neighbour hangs out of her window to ask him to shoosh!
This lovely story has been told in Scots and also carries a Scots to English glossary at the back. The dog used (Charity) as the inspiration for the illustrations is a real one owned by friends of the author. Charity was in a bad way when she was rescued but has been given a loving home and a new lease of life thanks to the UK based Scruffy Dog Rescue.
